Costa Rican like formally dressed people and a laid back attitude can be an obstacle for getting a job. TEFL or TESOL certificate is not mandatory for a teaching job in Costa Rica. However, a formal teachers training can help you during teaching as the schools here provide no training. The average remuneration of the teachers in Costa Rica is about five USD an hour. For private classes to adults the payment can be bit higher. The salary given to the teachers are enough to live a comfortable life in Costa Rica but you wont be able to save enough or pay off the loan with it.
The best time to look for ESL jobs in Costa Rica
is January or December as the sessions of the schools begin in January. A last
minute hiring is pretty common in this country being there at the right time
might help you get a job. Teachers are also taken in the months of April and
September. Most of the ESL jobs in Costa Rica are in the Central Valley and in
San Jose the capital city.
