The schools are open from Monday to Friday usually from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. The wages of the ESL teachers depends on their eligibility and experience. The salaries of the English teachers in Korea range from 1300 USD to 1700 USD per month. Most of the schools in Korea provide accommodation to its teachers. The accommodations are modern and have all western amenities. The teachers are paid extra if they have to work extra hours. The average hourly payment of the teachers is around 20$ per hour.

Universities and colleges also recruit teachers as English is mandatory in the higher studies. The ESL teachers recruited for the higher levels have to have better qualification and experience. TESOL or TEFL certificate is mandatory for most of the teaching position in this country. Native English speakers are preferred over all others nationalities although qualification and experience is taken into account sometimes. A clean Police background is required for getting a valid work permit in South Korea. It is not very intelligent to work without a valid work permit as the teachers might be in legal problem is caught by the government. In these cases there is also a chance of being betrayed by the school.

The ESL teachers in South Korea will also get the opportunity to learn Korean language, while teaching English here. The teachers have to do lesson plans and join in school activities like summer camps and English seminars.
